Ok when I right-click and go into the properties window I don't see the advanced button next to the Read-Only and other attributes boxes.

on the same topic, is there any way to do this within the same user (ie requiring information to be entered before getting into folder). i want to have to enter a password for a folder that i am the owner of

Sounds like your using FAT32 for your filesystem and not NTFS, encryption will only work on NTFS. You will need to convert the filesystem to NTFS.

Here are a few great links you should check out for folder/ file protection: WinGuard Pro 2004 Cryptainer LE Folder Lock Plus Those are the ones i have on my computer, and they are all freeware. Works great for me. http://aumha.org/win5/a/ntfscvt.php outlines the process. Once you convert to NTFS, you can set a password security by going to the properties of the folder and adding or denying access to the folder. If you have any further issues, please post back.
