Installing programs to a usb flash drive: possible?
At college, they only have IE, which I hate. So, is it possible to install firefox to a flash drive and run it from the flash drive?

You can't install something on your computer and use it on another. The reason is that registry entries are made, sometimes shared files are copied too.
Programs that don't need installation will work fine. So, I'd just give it a try. If firefox does not need the registry entries etc. to run, it should run from the flash drive. RJ

Actually while Firefox has an installer to go with it, you can download Mozilla as a zip file (http://www.mozilla.org/releases/ Win32 unzip file) and unzip and run it. It works just fine. The only issue is that the software will automatically create registry entries when you run it.

This is similar: but at my school. If you were the network administrator, how would you take someone asking if an alternate browser could be installed? (Also the resolution changed 800x600 is horrid). Do you think that it is a plausable thing to ask someone to be able to do?

I doubt it. Lets face it, IE works with everything, Firefox does not. The school would want maximum compatibility.
Also, I just thought of something. While it would be possible to get firefox on the flash drive (I just tried it and it works), I would need proxy settings and others. I don't think thats the kind of thing the network admin would give me. |

Never hurts to ask. I think it would be more likely that an alternative browser would be installed than the resolution changed.

Ric: You idea of proxy settings seems logical, and I might try asking the head of department, he's a resonable guy, so I will see what he says.
