*.idx files

i noticed yesterday that a load of *.idx files have found their way into my My Music folder.

i've googled around a bit and have found out that they could have been produced by Nero, outlook express (which i don't use, anymore) or various other programs. i installed sonicstage a few weeks ago for a new minidisc player and was wondering if that could have created them. they are called things like CA00.IDX and go up in a pattern up to STFF.IDX.

anyhow, i just wanted to know if they can be deleted or moved to a less annoying location.

i wanted to ask here because it's kind of unnerving having 1290 files turn up in a folder and not having a clue where they came from, what they are or if they can be removed.

thanks for all the help this forum has given me in the past.

How large are the files? Are they all the same size?

Try opening the files up in a hex editor to see if you can find any clues.

they're all 4kb. all of them together are 5.2MB. i will try with a hex editor tomorrow, at the moment i'm looking for a program that uses my My Music folder to store information. i have also done a full virus scan with norton.
