Win DVD Taking pics

I am having problems taking pictures in WinDVD. It works fine for most mpg files and for DVD's that I play. However when I try to play m2v files or avi files...it will play them but it won't allow me to take pics. If I convert the video to a dvd format it will work, but my PC aint the best and converting 600 meg video file for just 5 or so pictures is not worth it. I like windvd because it lets me pause and go almost frame by frame to take some of the best pictures I want. Any suggestions on how I could get windvd to to able to take pics of .AVI files? Or any other ideas/software I should use?

I know that WinDVD has had trouble with the newest file formats available.

Have you tried checking the site for an update to the WinDVD.

My other suggestion if you will, is try the Microsoft Windows Movie Maker. You can import a movie into it, view it from frame to frame or use the capture feature to get a snapshot (640x480) of the frame you want...
