splat internet explorer crashes with sp2

I just installed windows sp2 and ever since then internet explorer crashes when i try to use it. Even if i type a web adress into a folder from explorer. Im posting this from school right now and i can post the exact error if needed. Ive tried reinstalling IE by downloading IE6 from microsoft.com but it won't let me because the version i have is newer than the one im trying to install. Ive been having previous problems with internet explorer such as:

Crashes when logging on to some sites (fileplanet)
Crashes when using windows update
Crashes when posting on some sites (Gamedev.net)

you may want to look at this old post for more details on my crashes
HTML Code:

ever since i got my new RAM i haven't had any other problems except for internet explorer. I was also able to fix my problems with adobe premiere for those who might be curious(it was some incompatible codec) (ty gary for all the help btw)

With all that said here are my questions:

Has anyone else experienced something similar with sp2?
Is there a way i can uninstall internet explorer?
Is there a newer version of explorer than IE6 that i could upgrade to?

I haven't seen that problem. Have you scanned for virii and spyware? In the meantime, perhaps you should use another web browser.

my roomate downloaded SP2 and he had nothing but problems. It conflicted with everything so he uninstalled it. I think im gonna wait until they get all the bugs fixed before I install it. It seems like microsoft really jumped the gun on this one. Big suprise

before microsoft released SP2 they gave a list of programs that it might not be compatible or have conflicts with. A lot of them are games and programs like photoshop etc. So it might be working fine on a PC that doesnt have any of those programs. But it should be fine with IE tho. It might be conflicting with something associated with it like a plug in or something.

ok ive downloaded AVG 7.0 and have removed all the viruses detected most of them in a folder called litmus in my system folder. Mozilla is running fine (and its awesome from what i see) but alchol and IE still stumped.

Where is this list of uncompatibilities?
and wouldn't sp2 be compatible w/other microsoft products such as IE....

well in an attepmt to fix alchohol i did a repair install and restarted and now alchohol and IE both work... i think that sp2 didnt like having a virtual drive during install or something. Im using windows update so im thinking that problem is fixed. I can log on to fileplanet again.

I think sp2 fixed alot of my problems but just didnt like the virtual drive. But after fixing alchohol it all works.

Ty to all for help
