Converting WMA files to MP3s.

Can windows media player convert WMA files to MP3's? Im trying to burn a CD in MP3 but mp3 is no longer the default for windows media player anymore. And is there a program out there that can convert them? Also are WMA files higher quality than MP3s cause they seem to take up more space.

Windows Media Player will rip CDs to MP3. But once you have the in WMA, you need some other software to convert. If they are not DRM WMA files, you can use dbAmp converter. It'll do it just fine.

I tried that conveter last night and if you dont buy it you can only convert one single file at a time. I tried some other program that works well but its just a 30 day trial. Otherwise I would have to change the protocal of each file manually from .wma to .mp3

You can select more files by holding Ctrl while you click all the files you want. That worked for me.

Goldwave can do both individual and batch conversions from WMA to MP3, WAV, or a few other formats.

i could only convert one file at a time because it was a trial version. And Ill give goldwave a try but from now on I think im just going to rip my CDs into MP3 format.

I must have made a mistake I meant dbPowerAmp Converter. As far as I know it's a free program. Hold down the control key and select as many titles as you want to convert. I does do each file individually, but it'll accept a gaggle of files at once.

I know iTunes will convert files to AIFF format ( I assume this feature is in the WIN version as well as Mac), and under CD burning preferences you can have iTunes burn those files as MP3s. This should work assuming all of the same options are available on iTunes for WIN.

I think the MP3 option is only in Windows media player 10. I looked through 9 and I saw nothing about it and I havent tried using 10 yet. But I found a program called CD extracter or something like that and is working well for me.

Like I already suggested to Tophinator, try goldwave. It's pretty simple to convert a bunch of WMA's.

Take a look at the goldwave manual subheading "batch processing".
