Smile Audio Format

What format do Mp3's have to be, for me to be able to burn them from my computer, to a CD and have them play in my stereo, my car, cd player etc? I have Nero and another program called B's Recorder and I can't seem to get it right.

To play music from a CD-R in any CD player (not a MP3 player), the file format must be .wav files. So you need a utility like CDex that can convert MP3 files to .wav files.

If you have a CD player that can play MP3 CD's then you can burn an MP3 CD. Windows Media Player 10 will do this. Just change it to "Data CD" before burning. If your CD player does not play MP3 CD's you will need to make a normal 80 minute audio CD. WMP 10 will do this also. There is no need to manually convert your files to .wav format.

I think I have to manually convert them because I tried the regular audio option in Nero and they CD didn't work. So are there any free programs to do this? I have one program but it isn't very fast.

CDex is free. Click on the link in my previous post.

How quickly the files are converted will depend on the speed of your computer and the speed of the drives you're using. It's a good idea to defrag your hard drive prior to burning too.

Have you tried WMP 10? It should do exactly what you want to do. It automatically converts just about any format to burn to an audio CD.

There's no need to convert from .mp3 to .wav to make an audio CD in Nero. Just use the Nero Wizard (From Nero Burning ROM) or Nero Express and select Audio CD. Then just select the files you want to burn to CD and put them in the order you want. And use a good quality CD-R (not a CD-RW) and make sure the disc is finalized (Nero Wizard and Nero Express should have that option already enabled). If it's not finalized, it won't play in a CD Player.

One other thing - burned CD's are less reflective than a pressed CD - some older CD Players have difficulty playing CD-Rs for that reason.

And Cricket, just an FYI - CD files are .cda files, not .wav files. Same basic format, but there are differences.
