OpenOffice file format issue

Ok, i use OpenOffice 1.1 on Windows XP and I save in Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP .doc format.

The problem is that files I constantly open, modify and save are getting larger - even when I remove things. I just copied the material out of one file that was 186 KB and put it in a new document, which is now 10 KB. So it was almost %2000 the size it should have been. And i've observed this in more than one document, so I'm a bit mystified as to what's going on. Ideas?

I'm in Fedora at the moment, but I'm sure it's pretty much the same in Windows. Under Tools > Options > Load/Save > VBA Properties there is an option for "saving basic code again". To be honest, I have no idea if that will work for you or not, but hey, it's worth a shot.
