Is this all correct?

Hey guys,

I think I've posted this same question before but I cannot for the life of me remember exactly what the whole answer was that I got, so please forgive me.

Is this the correct order of data amounts?

Kilobytes>Megabytes>Gigabytes>Terabytes

And:-

1000 or 1024 Kilobytes = 1 Megabyte
1000 or 1024 Megabytes = 1 Gigabyte
1000 or 1024 Gigabytes = 1 Terabyte

Also:-

1 byte is composed of 8 bits. So:-

8000 or 8192 bits = 1 byte
1000 or 1024 bytes = 1 Kilobyte

Is this all correct?

Apologies for such a simple set of questions, but this was just all off the top of my head so I really need to make sure.

TIA...

The "1024 =" is correct. But, 1 byte = 8 bits, not 8000 or 8192. When converting Mega to Giga dividing by 1024 is correct, but using 1000 instead is quicker and easier (and close enough in most cases). I generally lop off the last three digits for a ball park number. Also remember to divide by 8 when converting bits to bytes.
Mb = Megabit
MB = Megabyte

Cool. Thanks MadMax So say I was going to download a 32MB file, it would also be known as 256Mb. Or it could be 32KB and that would also be known as 256Kb. The same applying to Gigas and Teras. And the order that I stated was correct too? Kilobytes>Megabytes>Gigabytes>Terabytes?

Byte Converter:
http://www.draac.com/byte-converter.html
(site has an online converter)

1 Byte = 8 Bit
1 Kilobyte = 1024 Bytes
1 Megabyte = 1048576 Bytes
1 Gigabyte = 1073741824 Bytes

Thanks EzyStvy! I'm guessing the amount order is self-evident by looking at the site and also that Terabytes are obviously next after Gigabytes Thanks again. Website bookmarked

Hi DGB,

It looks like you've got your answer already, but may I suggest this site for all kinds of mathematical and scientific info:

Best wishes,

Chris
