You can give this a try,

http://www.thebeatlesforever.com/pro...xt/abcpdf.html

It has a trial version and the licence isn't too expensive. The only thing is you the PDF needs to have embedded fonts or you can't convert it to Word.

By the embedded fonts do you mean built in fonts?

It's much easier to convert DOC (MS Word) files to PDF than it is the other way. The simplest way I know to do DOC to PDF is with Open Office (www.openoffice.org). Under File > Export as PDF. That works just fine.

Going from PDF to MS Word is a bit trickier. It's fairly easy to save it as a TEXT (txt) file. But you lose the formatting. Good converters from PDF to DOC ain't free as far as I know.

I just visited the link :http://www.openoffice.org/product/studies.html

In this link it is asking me to either download openoffice in .sxw format or in PDF format . Does that make any difference?

Thats a case study about open office, not OOo itself. You can download it at: http://download.openoffice.org/1.1.3/index.html

(At least thats what I think you are trying to do)
