Direct X 9.0 Installation Problem

A friend who has just installed windows XP pro is having trouble installing direct x 9. When im copying files it hits a certain one (ipsink.ax), says "installation stopped beause software does not pass windows logo testing and may not be compatible with winxp" and stops the install and there isnt an option to proceed anyway.

The Service Pack 2 contains DirectX 9.0c, so just install SP2, and you'll get the latest version of DirectX (and many other fixes), so just install SP2.
And I'd also slipstream it, so that whenever you need to reinstall, you don't need to apply SP2 again.

Anyway, the logo testing can be deactivated. Rightclick on "My Computer", select properties, go to the hardware tab, click in the middle on "driver signature" or something like that, and click on "Ignore".

Angry Fire

UPDATE

Well, I was about to type a thank you for solving the problem in one post then he IMs me with the new problems. Now it is restarting as soon as his desktop loads, even after reformating. He thinks maybe its his HDD (since its about the only piece of hardware that isnt brand new). It was just freezing and crashing and now it is telling that he may have faulty, or wrongly placed memory (something like that). Any ideas? He has invested so much time and money into this and it is still giving him all these problems...

Random Restarts are usually caused by a bad PSU, or temp problems. What is the brand and wattage of the PSU ? And what are his complete PC specs ?

But it could also be the memory, as Windows XP is more picky about it than Windows 98. So if Windows 98 ran fine, it doesn't mean that XP will run fine, too.

If it was the HDD he should hear clicking and grinding sounds.

Oh man... his PSU is brand new - almost everything in his computer is brand new. I need to go to his house and check it out (I have yet to actually see it). Thanks for the reply again, I will try to get the full system specs from him this weekend.
