nero burning rom issues with xp sp2
since i installed service pack 2 on my computer, i have not been able to burn a data dvd successfully. I have tried multiple scenarios and multiple files, but the process always fails immediately, only about 30 seconds into the burn process. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling a newer version of nero (from 6.0 to 6.6).
I don't know what to do to stop it from making an unrecoverable read error. it makes the arror at line 24, and cancels the write at line 30. if anyone can help me, id appreciate it, i need to burn some files off my computer to free up disc space. thanks. here is the log file if it helps at all. 12:58:21 PM #15 Phase 36 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1861 Burn process started at 1x (1,385 KB/s) 12:58:21 PM #16 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 2471 Verifying disc position of item 0 (relocatable, disc pos, no patch infos, orig at #0): write at #0 12:58:21 PM #17 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1719 Set remaining time: 48:40,858 (2920858ms) -> OK 12:58:21 PM #18 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 1955 Recording mode: Sequential Recording Mode 12:58:21 PM #19 Text 0 File Mmc.cpp, Line 20542 Set BUFE: Buffer underrun protection -> ON 12:58:21 PM #20 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 2096 Start write address at LBA 0 DVD high compatibility mode: Yes 12:58:21 PM #21 Text 0 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 8259 ---- DVD Structure: Physical Format Information (00h) ---- Layer: 0, Address: 0 (0 h), AGID: 0; Length: 2050 Book Type: DVD-R (2), Part Version: 5 Disc Size: 120 mm, Maximum Rate: 10.08 Mbps (2 h) Number of Layers: 1, Track Path: Parallel Track Path (PTP), Layer Type: recordable Linear Density: 0,267 um/bit, Track Density: 0,74 um/track Starting Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 30000 h (DVD-ROM, DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW) End Physical Sector Number of Data Area: 0 h End Sector Number in Layer 0: 0 h Data in Burst Cutting Area (BCA) does not exist Start sector number of the current Border-Out: 0 h Start sector number of the next Border-In: 0 h Media Specific [16..63]: 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 12:58:23 PM #22 Text 0 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1281 12:58:23.931 - PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104\H1 T0 : Queue again later 12:58:47 PM #23 SCSI -1128 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1429 SCSI Exec, HA 1, TA 0, LUN 0, buffer 0x0B0E0000 Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR) Sense Code: 0x11 Sense Qual: 0x05 CDB Data: 0x2A 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x03 0x20 0x00 0x00 0x20 0x00 0x00 0x00 Sense Data: 0x71 0x00 0x03 0xFF 0xFF 0x03 0xE0 0x0E 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x11 0x05 12:58:47 PM #24 CDR -1128 File Writer.cpp, Line 311 Unrecoverable read error 12:58:47 PM #25 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 229 all writers idle, stopping conversion 12:58:47 PM #26 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 223 conversion idle, stopping reader 12:58:47 PM #27 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 2338 EndDAO: Last written address was 799 12:58:47 PM #28 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1719 Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK 12:58:47 PM #29 Text 0 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1719 Set remaining time: 0:00,000 (0ms) -> OK 12:58:47 PM #30 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1861 Burn process failed at 1x (1,385 KB/s) |

I have the same problem.. when i first installed Nero on SP2, it said that they're not compatible.. however, i have used Nero sucessfully in burning DVDs while using Sp2.... the buffer bar goes up.. and then back down to 0%.. and get goes up.. but then back down again.. it repeats until the CD/DVD finishes with error: Buffer Under-run Errors. I hope it's a software problem, and not a hardware one... I am using a plextor drive, and they are supposedly reliable. Any help would be greatly appreciated :-D |

Go to the Nero site and install the updates for Nero 6. It's a known problem.

Make sure the burner is running in the DMA mode. You set that in device manager, in the properties of the IDE controllers.
