1 file 2 CDR's????

I have a large file I would like to burn using 2 cd-r's, how could I break the file up, burn the file and then rejoin the file? is it possible to do this without some kind of crazy 3rd party software? I don't expect my buddy to have to download some crap just so he can access the same file, or could I just compress it? the file is only 740 MB, yes I realize I could buy cd-r's that can handle that but I would like to find another resolution. Thanks.

I don't know what is "crazy 3rd party software" for you. You need programs like WinZip, WinRar, WinAce, or similar. Just pick the one you like most. These programs aren't crazy 3rd party programs, so they should be ok for you. J ust use the .zip format, then your buddy does not need to download anything, because Windows XP has native zip format support.
I'm not sure if Windows XP can create multivolume zip files, too. If it does, you won't need any of the mentioned 3rd party programs.

I believe Nero has a disk spanning feature.

What you could also do is compress the file with winrar and split it.

There are lots of free programs that will split files for you, and include a method to put them back together again. "FileSplittey" (spelling?) is one (of several) I've used long ago but is probably still availible.

Check out places like Tudogs.com, PCWorld.com, and the like (sorry I don't have the time right now to check it out...)

Here's a link:

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/bro...,1,pg,1,00.asp

It's the "File Management" section, and on the first page alone, there are several file splitting progrmams.

I use Splitter. It works great. For CD-R's just set the file size to 700MB. I use it to back up my pictures which now span 4 CD's.
