Hi everyone. A few days ago I stubled across a thread here about things to do with an older PC. I took particular interest in the Smoothwall application that basically utilizes an older PC and turns it into a router/firewall for a home network. I was particularly interested in this but have some questions first.
I am running ADSL through a Linksys Etherfast cable/dsl router with NAT. Could I expect better protection from the smoothwall machine? Can I use the smoothwall machine AND the Linksys router instead of trashing it and buying a hub to connect my 4 computers to? Any help would be much appreciated. I have searched the net and read quite a bit lately regarding Smoothwall but have not been able to answer my questions. |

The smoothwall might be more custimzsable than the router and stop outbound traffic which most routers don't.
You should be able to use both smoothwall and the router. |

Thanks Nubbler. I think I'll give it a try.
