Removing NVIDIA drivers

How do you properly remove NVIDIA drivers besides removing them in device manager and in add/remove programs in control panal? Or is that the only way?. I remember somebody mentioning to delete a .INF file? Does this work for ATI cards too?

TIA.

Matt

Setting the card to standard VGA and deleting any applets in the Add/Remove programs, and then any drivers in Device Manager works pretty good. If there are any "artifacts" remaining, like .INF files (which are harmless) you can remove them manually. Works good for ATI, too.

Thanks Tworails.

Tworails: I do not see Standard VGA when I go double click on my video card, hit update drivers, and then pick a driver from the list. I see a lot of brands such as Gainward, Intel, etc. I am using Windows 2000.

Perhaps removing the drivers from device manager automaticly sets it o Standard VGA?

TIA

I've never had any problems just uninstalling the drivers form Add/Remove in the COntrol Panel. Besides, if you do uninstall and reboot, all Windows will do is reinstall the default drivers (if any) that it carries in its database.

You might want to visit Guru3D. They have a few tools such as Detonator Destroyer and Detonator R. I. P. that you might want to try out.

Don't know W2K, but it sounds like you looked in the right place. I'd go with pillainp's post and uninstall, letting Windows load the default (Std VGA) drivers.
