Norton Ghost and a disappearing drive

I reformatted my computer, reloaded Win 2000, reloaded my programs, and got my system to exactly where I like it. I then used Norton Ghost 2003 to make a clone image of my C drive. Now on my hard disk there are two drives, labeled C and D. There is nothing on the D drive, so I chose not to include that in the image. So I cloned my C drive and stored it on an external drive. Later I remembered that I wanted to add a few settings to the image so I restored the image to my C drive. Well that went fine, but when I went into My Computer my D drive was GONE. Not even listed anymore. I can't explain why this happened. If anyone has a clue let me know.

Did you do disk to disk or partition to partition?

All I can tell you is that when I made the backup when I first went in to the menu where you pick your source drive, both my C and D drives were selected by default. Since I just wanted to clone my C Drive, I clicked on C and then just that was highlighted. Then I made the backup.

That's fine, but how did you *restore* the image? You should have restored partition to partition.

I clicked Restore and just followed through the menus. I don't recall there being a "Partition to Partition" option anywhere.

Okay - open Disk Management, and look at the hard drive. Does the C drive now take up the whole drive, or is there some unallocated space? If what *used* to be the D drive is now unallocated space, right click on it and create a partition and format it. If the C drive is now the entire drive, you will need Partition Magic to shrink it to make room to make a new partition.

There are two partitions on my hard drive, C which holds the OS and programs, and D which is totally blank. I opened up disk management and sure enough both partitions were listed there. I don't understand how I would select a "partition to partition" option upon restoration if none such option exists.

Take a screen shot of your disk management screen and post it as an attachment, please. I suggest a .jpg, it must be 100k or smaller. If you need something better than print screen and Paint and don't have an image editor, use Irfanview (www.irfanview.com).
