mozilla thunderbird email program

I recently tried using thunderbird
for my main email app. And it works great, except that in order to get new emails I have to hit "get mail" everytime. I have looked through all the settings, and advanced settings, but it doesn't have any options for automatically checking new emails...

Does anyone know a way, or have any input on this??

Under the Tools pulldown menu select Account Settings. Highlight Server Settings. Click the box Check for new messages at startup.

I guess I didn't check the account settings, just the options under tools
