A firewall... hardware or software that blocks incoming or outgiong connections/ports/signals....

MSN messenger is picky about firewalls and if one of you are behind a firewall, as in using one, then you will have a hard time using voice. I used to use Sygate (a software firewall) and I had to do some messing around before I could use voice in MSN.

Check it out.

An internet sharing router is a firewall. So is a client computer when you are using host/client internet connection sharing. Basically, if your modem is not connected directly to the computer, you have this situation, and whatever you are using to share the connection (router or ICS) has to be specially configured. This applies to EITHER end of the attempted conversation. Examples of software firewalls are Zone Alarm, Sygate, Kerio. Windows XP also has a builtin firewall. Software firewalls have to be configured too.
