Ripping Audio CD to MP3s
Hi Folks,
Anyone recommend a good download of free software to rip audio cds into mp3s? I have been using musicmatch jukebox but i'm not too keen on the interface and would like to maintain higher quality sound. Thanks, Stryker

CDex is a highly configurable freeware that will do it.

I use Exact Audio Converter with the LAME MP3 encoder, and its great, but i've heard good things about CDex too.

I've never had a problem with MusicMatch. If you go to options, you can set the ripping quality. Chances are that it's set as 96 or 128Kbps as default.

I think you have to pay for MMJB in order to enable 128 rips or above.

I use Windows Media Player 10 for everything from ripping to burning to playing. It works great and has a very nice interface. You can rip very high quality MP3's.

Hey Hi Ho,
I didn't even know WMP10 would rip mp3's! Maybe I'll give that a shot first as I already have it installed. Also mikezel, A friend of mine uses Exact Audio Converter and absolutely loves it. Perhaps that will be my second choice if WMP10 doesn't work out. Thanks for the replies everyone! Stryker |

WMP 10 is the first version of WMP that can rip MP3's. Before it was only WMA. It is set to WMA by default though so if you want MP3 you have to go into the options and change it. It isn't hard to find but I don't have WMP 10 installed on this machine yet so I can't check at the moment.
