Can't send email with thunderbird-SBC Yahoo email system

I imported my settings from outlook express (I have no problem sending and receiving email here). I have Yahoo SBC email. For some reason, I can receive email but I can't send email with Thunderbird. I checked the pop settings and smtp settings and they are the same in both mail systems.

Anyone got a clue how fix this??

Thanks, I do have premium account I believe. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong. I can't believe Yahoo doesn't support this given the popularity of Firefox.

How does having premium account help me in this case, btw?

Well, I have SBC Yahoo and Thunderbird works for me. I heard that Yahoo was not going to support POP to "Free" users, only premium accounts (which SBC is).

What is in Tool-Account Settings-Server settings?

Should look like this:

pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com Port 110

username

Are you using your Yahoo username, or your SBC name? (It has to be the Yahoo one with NO @yahoo.com on it) I had difficulty at first with this.

Make sure you are using the exact same account name, password, and servers in Thunderbird as you are in OE.

The SMTP requires authentication.

In thunderbird, under account settings, do you guys have your complete email address above the server settings in the window on the left or the pop info?

This doesn't look right. When I compose email, in the from section it has 'my name' -pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com, is this correct?

Send someone an email, and have them tell you who it shows up as being from.

It (Thunderbird) doesn't complete the sending of any email. I was just asking to see if it's normal to have the pop settings appear in the 'from' window of a new email being composed within Thunderbird.

I get some kind of smtp error message when I click send. Some setting is not getting transfered correctly from O.E. to Thunderbird. As I said before, I can receive emails just fine.

Have you set up the authentication as described in the link I posted?

Yes, and I'm using the same SMTP for thunderbird as I had for O.E. This is really puzzling.

thanks for the help

In the authentication, are you using your full username (I assume it's antgross@pacbell.net)? This is required with SBC because there are several different ones - ameritech.net, sbcglobal.net, etc. that all use the same SMTP. If so, for grins, try it with just your username. I've seen stranger things.

Yeah, I've tried variations with and without the @pacbell.net. It's a little complicated because I have subaccounts with SBC yahoo. I've tried several variations but no luck.
I sent an email to SBC yahoo tech support asking about compatibility with Thunderbird. It's my understanding that any pop3 compatible mail system should work with Yahoo servers. Since I have the same smtp settings in both mail systems, I can't see why it shouldn't work with Thunderbird.

thx

I used my DEFAULT YAHOO! username.

For example: I'm fred@yahoo.com (NOT sbcglobal)

I just put, "fred" in the username box and then your Mail password

good luck

Yahoo tech supports best suggestion was to change sbcglobal to pacbell for the pop and smtp settings and that didn't do jack sh**.

The mozilla forums are littered with dozens of posts about not being able to send email when yahoo servers are involved. I spent an hour reading through ones that were similar to my situation and was not able to find a solution.

What I find puzzling also is that the smtp server at yahoo doesn't even prompt me for a password for my login whether I tell TB to use password or not. It's as if my send mail request is not even making it to their server. I find this very puzzling since I can send email with O.E. just fine so I don't think it's a firewal issue or something like that.

I've tried several variations on your suggestion, using or not using my full email address with and without password. No dice!

Well after trolling through more mozilla forums, it turns out that this is a bug with Thunderbird. Some people can get around the bug by putting their email in the send later folder and then send it that way. Others (like me) cannot. No point in banging my head anymore over this one for now
