Recently I tried to add a USB card to my ancient P1 machine ( 200 mhz ). which is running windows 95C and IE 5.5. (Until this point 95 was operating fine.) Plug and Play tried to find a driver for this card ( CMD673B - Rev B). No luck. I removed the card believing that there was no resident driver for this newer card and I couldn't find one online. NOW at startup I still got a message that windows has detected new hardware and looking for a driver ,etc. THEN I removed the serial interface adapter in Systems > Device Manager. This was probably not a good idea. Anyway I started having more problems at start-up. Finally reloaded windows 95C on top of itself. Also dumb. Now Outlook Express will not allow me to open new mail although it still reads old stuff ... gives an error message " not enough memory". Several dll files appear to be missing and I've got a message in BIOS that windows cannot create a monolithic Vxd file. Apparently some Java files are needed to make OE work and I am sure some of these missing. IE 5.5 is still operating and other functions seem to be working. This machine is ancient and only has 32 megs of ram. I'm thinking about just saving a few files to floppies and just reformating the hard disk and reinstalling W95 again. Has anyone had any problems along a similiar vein?
Thanks, Werner |

I doubt that the card has Win95 drivers - not too many devices are compatible with Win95's USB.
95 "C" was very unstable to begin with. If you are going to wipe it (may not be a bad idea at this point) I'd recommend installing Win98SE on it. You have enough horsepower for it. |
