figuring out fonts
Is there a program that can look at a photo or file or whatever and tell what font and size is used? I am helping my Mom make a flyer using another persons flyer example(hard copy). I scanned it in and have tried to guess the font by scanning through my options to no avail. At this point i could use another font, but now it will bug me unless I figure it out. Thanks in advance

You could try using an OCR (text recognition) program. The one that came bundled with my Lexmark printer/scanner seems to do a decent job of guessing fonts.
Be aware that a lot of people have access to special fonts that come with publishing software or whatnot, and your computer might simply not have the required font. I personally like to collect fonts for absolutely no good reason and have around a thousand installed on my computer, but the typical computer out of the box has far fewer. Also, in my experience publishing newsletters, the font is important but not so important that you can't find easily use a dozen different fonts for an almost identical effect. Nobody is going to pay nearly as much attention to the font as you are. |

Thanks. Like I said I could do it with a similar font...and actually I have it written up and it looks fine, but now its just driving me crazy to not be able to figure it out. I will try the ocr program that came with my scanner(pretty old though). I appreciate your time thanks.

If all else fails, post a screen shot in this thread and I'll see if I can identify it for you. Many companies also use software like photoshop to create text under a standard font and then "morph" it into something else. You can transform even something like Arial into pretty fancy text with some distortion and resizing.
