Partition Magic trouble
I have PM 8.01(patched) before Norton
Using WinXP SP2. Program worked well in the past, but I believe since the SP2 upgrade, it has failed to work properly. Trying to resize, create, or move a partition on an SATA drive. PM runs and works until it goes to apply the changes on reboot. At startup, I get only a blank screen, no notification that PM is doing anything. I've let it do it's thing and come back 3hrs later with the same blank screen. I can escape out and XP will boot with no disk changes. I've scoured the Norton website for clues to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled PM. Have yet to uninstall SP2 to see if that is it. I'd rather that be a last option. BIOS virus protection is off and I can't think of a service that should or shouldn't be running that would make a difference. Any Ideas? Thanks! Dan |

I'm inclined to think it's more likely a Norton issue than an SP2 issue. I've used my PM8 on two different machines running SP2 and AVG without a problem. Did a SATA drive on one and PATA on the other. If your Norton is anything after version 2003, I'd remove it from your system. Heard and seen too many complaints about Norton 04 and 05 conflicts, especially the System Works products.

Make the emergency floppies and try using them to make your changes.
PR: I believe he means that it's the latest Powerquest version of PM8, not the Symantec version. |
