safest way about it is just using like icq or netmeeting and finding friends that are willing to trade with you.

p2p is always unsafe, no matter what program you use

Ghost is right. If you use P2P, you're taking a risk. But, if you take proper precautions-- using a firewall, having an up to date AV program, and scanning for spyware--you reduce the "dangers".

iTunes or Musicmatch are good music programs, of course it's not free but it's legit

or there are private P2P where you can trade amoung friends and not get the evil eye from the RIAA, I just can't remember them off top of my head - doing a Google search should find them. I just want to clear the last sentence up a little by what I mean, it's like back in the old days where you share music by copying cassette tapes with friends, which I think they (RIAA) consider it fair use but I'm no lawyer. Now by using a private P2P program it's basically the same thing and the RIAA and the Movie Industry are basically after the big time bootleggers. An just last week in Detroit some guy got busted big time for doing that with DVD movies and now he's facing big time jail sentence, not worth it in my book.
