Mp3s "skip" when playing on computer

Ive got a bunch of mp3s (300 or so) on my computer all ripped using realplayer or in a few, WMP off the cd's. When i play them, they "skip" once in a while, not every often but i still dont know why. I dont think it has anything to do with the mp3's themselves, as they may skip at a part then the next time in a different part or not at all. Its rare that it happens, but i didnt notice this problem when i first built the PC and with my previous pentium MMX (OLD) system even. In both the cases mentioned above i used realplayer to play them, here i am using WMP.

What version of WMP? If it's an older version, you may need to grab newer codecs.

What are your computer specs, what processes are running in the background, have you defraged lately? If I get too many programs running my mp3s skip as well, as the processor can not keep up, I would suspect that is you problem as well.

Go to help > about on the program's tool bar. That should tell you the version you are running.

I'd use a "real" mp3 player, iTunes or Winamp, both work very well (Winamp has great plug-ins and iTunes supports Asian charsets). This may not fix your problem (unless they come with the newest codecs), but they are still good for organization and the like (trust me, when you start ripping all of your CDs and get a sizable collection (I have a little under 6500 mp3s), you need it). I'd definitely check how much memory you are using up as well.

WMP is a "real" MP3 player. Just as real as the others. In my opinion it's the best out there. I'm not sure why your MP3's skip. On my other PC (533mhz K6) I cannot play music or any sounds for that matter. It sounds horrible with skips, pops, stuttering, you name it. My old, old K6 233mhz could play music just fine.
