Does it need to be more powerful than notepad?

Do you need to be able to make lables?

Have you considered Outlook Express?

What exactly are you looking for? Just a "phone book?" or an autodialer? or just a text database? etc...

I use an old program I wrote for keeping track of all my family, friends, and business contacts, but it's so old it doesn't have any newer features like being able to email from my "phone book" or autodial or the like. It's a straight data base.

You can also use something like Excel or Quattro, or even Word tables and the like.

I want to be able to keep names, addresses, telephone numbers, birthdates, etc. I thought Outlook but then I thought about all the security issues of viruses and worm spreading and reconsidered. Is Outlook any safer after XP, or is this a more a matter for people who don't upgrade and/or don't do any maintenance on their PC's?

Thanks.

The software in my Palm does all that plus a few other things. You can download just the software for your computer without using the Palm device.

I have a couple of clients that use this just for the applications you're looking for. Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

Does it matter which handheld or smartphone model I choose for a Dell notebook?

Choose the Palm IIIxe. That's the one I have and I know that the software will work on other machines. Shouldn't make any difference if it's a Dell. Just be sure to select the correct Operating System.

No security issues I'm aware of. My home network is firewall protected by the router so outsider probing is nonexistent. You should probably run some type of firewall protection, either hardware or software, any time you have a computer that will access the internet.
