Losing Word Perfect Speller
Every so often I lose my Word Perfect Speller.I get a message of "Writing Tools internal error." Using Word Perfect Office 11 with WIN XP as my OS. I try using the "Repair" on the CD but it doesn't work as it just stops running. Only out seems to be to delete and re install the program - very frustrating and time consuming. Cannot use Corel as the CD seems to be OEM and they wont talk to me with a OEM disc despite the fact that it was purchased at considerable expense. Anyone out there have an answer to this problem?

Try this first....
1. Run the Windows Search program by clicking Start | Search | Files or Folders. 2. Type PFREG.EXE on the "Named line" and then click on Search Now. 3. Double click on the PFREG.EXE file, which should be found in the $CORELSUITE8PROGRAMS$ directory 4. Click on the Unregister button in the PerfectFit Component Registration dialog box. 5. Click on the Register button in the PerfectFit Component Registration dialog box. 6. Select Close to exit. $ shows a variable. your directory may be different. If that doesn't work, there are further steps you can take, but you must have the WordPerfect CD-Rom. Detailed directions are at the following link. http://help.isu.edu/disppage.php?doc_id=293&cat_id=62 Good Luck! |

rightcoast: Could not find the file PFREG.EXE. Both your solution and the web page you cited require altering this file. Perhaps iti is because I am using WordPerfect 11; not 8 as listed in both in your reply and the web page.

I'll research into this a little more for you. I had the same thing happen to me when I had to use wordperfect for school a few years ago, I figured the fix would be the same. Sorry I sent ya down the wrong path

This should fix you up, the answer is right from Corel's tech support boards. It will be much faster than a complete reinstall. Like it says in the article, be sure to back up your registry!

Rightcoast: I really appreciate your efforts on my behalf. As to the Corel web site; all I can say is I have been there and done that. Sure glad I backed up the registry first as this only presented more problems. Bringing back the registry backup cleared most of it but am still having problems with my mouse plus a notice of Presentation files are corrupted. As for the speller; it is the same as before. I am really beginning to wonder if Word Perfect 11 was meant to operate with XP. particularly after loading down Service Pack 2 plus hearing that others are having the same problem. Anywho; I am going to contact Word Perfect, they wont help me with my problem due to OEM CD, but perhaps they will consul me regarding version 11 versus XP. My main question to them is can I just purchase the word processor without all the "Office" garbage. Really don't need, or want, the other programs. If they say it's not compatible then I guess I shall just have to pay for the overpriced version 12. I would just give up and use another word processor but my wife would kill me. If I resort to the latest Word Perfect than it is just about time to format and start out with a clean version of XP.
