splat Task Manager Won't Come up!!!!

My friend is having a problem with his computer, were starcraft loads, then right as it is done loading it quits, so i thought that maybe he has spyware, or something.
I ran S&D and Ad-aware, and it didn't change anything. Then i thought maybe there was something running that could affect it, so i try to goto the task manager but as soon as it pops up, it closes.
Does anyone know what the problem is that could be closing down these programs?

What are his system specs and which operating system is he using? Also, what kind of background programs does he have running on the PC (antivirus, firewall, etc...)?

When the Task Manager closes does it just minimize to the taksbar, or does it close out completely?

If he can get on-line now, he should head over to TrendMicro and do an on-line scan for viruses with Housecall.
