I am running Windows (3.1) (95) (98) (ME) (2K) (XP). The modem is a (fill in the blank with model) and the modem (passes) (fails) diagnostics. The phone line (is) (is not) plugged into the correct jack on the modem and a telephone (works) (does not work) plugged into the same jack.

I'm not trying to belittle you, but we do need some more details.

Okay - here is how you run diagnostics.

Control panel (classic view), phone and modem options, modems, highlight it, properties, diagnostics, query modem.

To fax something to the builtin Windows fax program, just print it and choose Fax for your printer. What exactly happens when you do this? Winfax should do the same thing - what version of Winfax?

A very good way to test your modem is with Hyperterminal - just set it to dial your cell phone and see if it dials and rings through. So is setting up a standard dialup ISP connection, if you have one available (my DSL service comes with 20 hours of free dialup a month, for example).

Ok.No prob i am just a bit embarassed it's stupid.

My card has 2 phone jacks 1 for the phone line and one u can plug in a phone.

They were in the wrong place i had to inverse them.

Now i obviously thought about that beforehand but i wrongly thought that if they were in the wrong order i wouldnt get a dial tone on the phone and i did have it all the time ,but when i started running the diag the fax said no dial tone..
so i woke up change the plugs and all is fine.

Thank u very much again.
