XML stands for EXtensible Markup Language. It is a standard for web pages that was developed to overcome some of the limitations of HTML.
It is a new markup language, developed by the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), mainly to overcome limitations in HTML. The W3C is the organization in charge of the development and maintenance of most Web standards, most notably HTML. For more information on the W3C, visit its Web site at www.w3.org. XML predefines no tags the way HTML does, but permits authors to specify their own tags, such as the one below: "< price currency=”usd” >499.00< /price >" This tag does not exist in HTML. Some places you could go to read up on the subject: www.xml.com/ www.w3.org/XML/ www.xml.org/ http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/ Hope that helps. NPP

Also, XML is only for data--not for style. It is designed to be a way to share information, but without rules on how to style it for display. Usually, someone will use something called XSLT to style XML.

Games tend to use it a lot. Halo PC had meta and xml for every single tag in the game.
