Moving restricted files from old to new HD
I have a 4 computer peer to peer network. All comps have WIN XP PRO and we're using NTFS. I recently got a larger hard drive and I want to transfer files over the network from the old HD to the new HD. The problem I'm having is that some files have had restricted access placed on them by different users so when it comes time to copy a large folder, say X, it copies part of the folder and then chokes when it gets to the restricted file. Then, I have no clue where to begin the copying process again. I ran into the same problem when I tried to used Norton GHOST instead.
Is there a way to figure out which files have restricted access on them so I can bypass them in the copying process for now. I have 30+ gigs to move so this kind of hassle. thanks |

Try logging in to the local machine where the files reside as administrator and take ownership of the files and folders.
However, the simple way of doing this, while preserving permissions, is physically slave the drive into the same computer as the new drive and clone it. |
