I'm going to back up a really humongous iTunes library before formatting a computer.
Am I right that I'll have to "deauthorize" this computer after I backup the library in order to avoid a hassle with DRM when I reinstall iTunes? Or does the fact that it's the same computer mean I can (should?) skip that step? Advice needed from anyone who's been there.

Yes. Even though it is the same system, once Windows is reformatted, the system appears different to ITunes. If you deauthorize before formatting, you won't have to waste any of your extra licenses.

Actually you don't have to deauthorize before. You can do it afterwards online.

There was actually a letter exactly like this in Maximum PC so that's where I got it from.
