BSOD "nvmcp.sys"

Hey Folks,
OK... this is a LOOOONNNGG one!

I was just clicking away looking at a WinXP Slideshow of some digital pics I took and WHAMMO... blue screen. The file referenced was nvmcp.sys, which I have found after some Googling is related to Nvidia drivers (most likely audio). My board is an Asus A7N8X with Nvidia Nforce2 onboard audio and LAN.

I have not changed anything and I have literally NEVER had a BSOD before on this system. Has always been perfectly stable and consistent. The only thing I have done lately that even resembles a change is last night I installed Need For Speed Underground 2. Could this install have messed up my DirectX or something (I was running D.X 9 before this install but maybe different version).

I did a search for this file and found 4 instances on my drive (C: is my OS drive and D: is where all my Program Files are):
HTML Code:
  - C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\nvmcp.sys
  - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ReinstallBackups\0006\DriverFiles\nvmcp.sys
  - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ReinstallBackups\0015\DriverFiles\nvmcp.sys
  - D:\Program Files\NVIDIA\nForceWin2KXP\3.13\AudioDrv\nvmcp.sys
The strange part is, each instance is a slightly different file size and all different "Last Modified" dates (the most recent being the one in system32 at 12/23/2003, which is also the smallest at 726kb).

I don't want to keep blabbering but I didn't want to change or install/reinstall anything until I know for sure it will help. As I say, system has been flawless until this and I'm apprehensive to change anything (but will if required of course).

Sorry to be long winded but thanks very much for any help,
Stryker

I would update all your Nvidia drivers and install DX 9.0c.
