Any good alternatives to AOL IM?
I am looking for an IM program to replace AOL IM with. Is there anything worth getting? I have heard about Trillian but that is about it. Thanks.

I've been using AIM 5.5 with AIMutation. It offers all the useful features and kicks the bad ones.

MSN messenger is pretty good, you can use any email addresses to sign on as passport ID.

Trillian is another thing you may want to look at as it combines several different chat clients into one (AIM, IRC, MSN, etc.). I personally am still using AIM 5.5 with the ads blocked through the hosts file. |

Yeah I am using an older version of AIM, 5.2 I believe. I also have an older version of Dead AIM so I don’t get any ads or anything. New versions of AIM are horrible, I remember I upgraded for the hell of it and it installed spyware on my computer! Even the version I have now installed some viewpoint spyware crap, but I got rid of it. The AOL/Dead AIM combo I am using isn’t bad but I am basically just looking for a change, plus I hate AOL and would rather not have any software from them on my computer.

I'm a long time Trillian Pro user, just renewed my liscence a few minutes ago, and I must say it's the best I've come across. Takes AOL's chat client to a whole new level
