Anyone try the new MS antispyware yet?

Apparently it's free. I haven't tried it yet. Maybe somebody can post results/impressions here

It seems to be fairly responsive. The only problem I found was that it mistook an immunization of spybot's as a threat. It allows you to clean a lot of mrus and temp files also.

I ran Adaware and Spybot first just to make sure the Microsoft product was put to it's paces. And it did find 11 threats (two trojans from IE plugins I didn't even know I had, two home page hijackers again from IE and a few other things). I also like the Spynet Antispy Community - as long as Microsoft keeps their mitts out of it, it seems (and sounds) like a good thing.

picked up on a few items missed by spybot and adaware for me as well. seems like a nice spyware removal tool to me.

It's a beta - and don't even try to download it if you are running an illegal copy of Windows, it does a validation before it lets you download it. It's also only compatible with 2K, XP, and 2K3 - can't run it on 9x/ME.

I downloaded it and it works great. It found one thing that nothing else got but I think its a fauls positive since it said it shows ads or something and i never saw any. What will it cost when it comes out?

The review indicates that it's very good, but you still need to keep Spybot and Ad-Aware too.

Cobra made a post about it. See HERE. Appearently it used to be known as Giant Anti-Spyware. I'm running a scan now. I'll post back when it finishes.

EDIT: Well it found two problems. One "High risk" and one "Very high". The very high risk one was a trojan which I had no idea was there. The other one was adware. I'll be keeping it. What I will do, however, is turn off auto update and real time protection. Those two processes take up 19 MB of RAM... No thanks. I'm fine with manual update/scanning.

Interesting. It determined that TightVNC was spyware but it did have ignore as the default action on it instead of remove.

well i scanend with adaware, then i scanend with the enw MS one afterwards, and the only "threat" it found was CLean KMD, which it identified as kazaa, a spyware installer. Clean KMD however is clean and i put it there on purpose.

but it does seem to be a good spyware tool.

As more reviews come in, it's appearing that it's a very good tool, but not a total replacement for other quality tools such as Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware, or Spyware Sweeper. There's nothing *wrong* with it, but it's not a swiss army knife either. The beta appears to be very stable.

It did that to me as well, but at least if I was not aware it was installed then I could take further action. Also the description said it had legimate purposes, so they are not saying it is defintely spyware.

Since it found a few items (two trojans etc) I might consider buying it if (when) M$ starts charging for it.

I installed it and haven't had any issues with it. I don't use the real-time protection since it is such a memory hog. I ran Ad-Aware and Spybot with all updates prior to installing, ran a scan and it found about 20 items not found by the other 2 programs, luckily nothing critical. Guess I'll just wait and see what it's going to cost after the trial period is over to see if I keep it.
