I recently partitioned my hardrive into three partition and I am going to move stuff around .
I understand that when you un-install software you sometimes but not always wind up some of these things not all those things of course like for example obsolete files , broken registry keys, unnessary folders, graphic, links that go nowhere , so for that reason I never un-install anything even if I don't use the software I rather have it doing nothing then un installing it , but my question is what about un-installing from my c drive and re-installing the same software I un-installed onto my d drive , logic tells me this would not cause any of those problems that you get when you uninstall and never use that program again ? Am I correct in thinking that un -installing is fine if you are going to re install the same software again ? As a follow up to that question it seems to me that its ok to uninstall and reinstall third party programs stuff I bought in the store and installed myself norton system suite, ghost surf, recovery commander , spy sweeper , and free downloads spy bot and ad aware but what about software that came preinstalled on my computer by dell and is mostly on the hardrive ( need no cd) like word, works, encarta, maps and streets and cd and dvd software is it harmless to uninstall and re install those types of software as well , and about printer and scanner software do those have to be on the c drive and can not be moved to the d drive ? |

From my experience, those most concerned about removing "everything" are those using hacks or trial versions. Some residual may affect their using an upgrade or another trial version in the future.
I remove things I don't need in my computer. But I'm not worried about some dead residual folders or registry entries. Trying to "over clean" and not knowing what you are doing CAN cause problems. I uninstall and reinstall quite frequently with no problems. Not getting rid of stuff you don't need can overburden your computer.

As long as there is an uninstall (either in add/remove programs or in the program group in the start menu) and you have the reinstall media, you can safely uninstall anything and reinstall to a different location. Same goes for any software that's required for hardware. Just change the installation path when you reinstall using a custom install instead of a typical or default.
