You don't use DOS to install WinXP.

The WinXP CD is bootable.

Start your computer and then enter the BIOS. Change the first boot device to the CD-ROM drive. Put the WinXP CD in the drive. Save and Exit the BIOS. System will reboot to the WinXP CD in the CD-ROM drive. The WinXP installer will start. Follow the on-screen instructions.

After the installation is complete remember to reset your boot sequence or your machine will be looking for your OS on the CDrom.

You don't have to change the boot sequence. Just don't have a CD in the drive when you boot. Even if you do, there is usually an option to press a key if you want to boot from CD.

Can you use the same copy of windows xp on two different computers? I have a dell that came with the winxp restore disks and want to build a second computer. I am not sure of the legalities of this or if the disks will work? Thanks for any replies.

No you can't... one license, one computer. Dell restore disks wouldn't work on a clone anyway.
