Video files keeps skipping during playback
hey guys,
havent posted on the mech forums for a long time :-P anyways, i come to you with a problem. every video file i have, keeps skipping during playback for some reason, i think it started when i got my new graphics card (XFX Geforce fx 5900xt) and upgraded to the newest drivers.. not sure. anyways, everything is running great, games, windows environment, etc... its just that when i play clips / movies or whatever, it skips all of a sudden into a few seconds after what i just saw, and i tried Windows media player, Windows media player classic, and Divx player, they all do the same problems, if i notice the skipping (which isnt always) i usually go back with that bar thing a few secods backwards to watch what i've missed, and it doesnt happen again at the same place, but at some other point during the video. this happens every few minutes i think. can you guys please help me ? Thanks, KoMoDo |

What type of video format?
Does it do the same thing with DVDs? Do you have a lot of programs running in the background while the video is playing? Have you scanned for spyware?

hey FF, havent seen ya in a while :-P
anyways, its an AVI format (either DIVX or XVID.. both i guess) im not sure about other formats actually... if you can get me a different format than avi or whatever codec that's longer than like 5 minutes ill check and see how it went. come to think of it, i do open several sharing progs once i watch movies.. i will try to close all i can.. although i did the same months ago and without any issues... yes, i scan every once in a while, nothing is ever found, since i have AVG anti virus + spyware blaster and spybot search and destroy and also adaware :-P Thanks, im off to a field trip in 7 hours from now... so i wont get much sleep errr.. and ill be back on thursday night, not sure if i'll even open the computer then cause of tiredness, if i wont, ill check on friday, if i will be alright, then thursday, just reply whenever u guys want :-P Thanks. Yeah, I've been offline for about a week.
If you're having a lot of disk writes, that will *definately* affect playback performance, as the video file is stored on the HDD. |

Hey, just saw this post....If you haven't already solved the problem, try defragging your hard drive, I was having the same problem and it cured it.
