Nero 6 & VOB files: Any way to rename Video Files with the same extension?

I'm not sure which forum to post this question as I don't know if this is just a DVD Buring issue, Windows, a file extension issue or what but here goes:

I just installed a DVD Burner (Sony DRU 710A) that came with Nero 6.6. I'm a total newb at DVD Burning and I am trying to make a compilation of videos from several DVDs onto to one. But two of the Video files (VOB) have the same name and Nero will not let me load both to record on one disc.

The files both start with :"VTS_1_1.VOB".

When I try to add both to add window in Nero this window pops up:
"Special entry already present on target location. Original, Joliet, or ISO file names can be identical. Cannot move 'VTS_1_1.VOB' to new location."

If I try to rename one of the files to something like "VTS_1_1.VOB(1)" it would be an invalid or unsupported file in Nero.

Is there a safe way to rename video (or audio) files with the same extension so that I can load both into the same folder? I don't see anything in Nero that allows me to rename the file.

Thanks in advance

When renaming, you cannot put any additional letters or numbers after the dot because that changes the file extension which is what programs use to identify what kind of file it is.

Rename it by changing the name before the dot. Example, "VTS_1_2.VOB" or anything else you'd like, just so long as the ".vob" remains unchanged.

Thanks for your replies.

I found the info and the tools I needed to accomplish what I wanted. If I want to add video files with the same name to one DVD then I have to rename them in order like:

VTS_1_001.VOB
VTS_1_002.VOB
VTS_1_003.VOB

There is also additional software (VOB Edit, IFO edit,& DVD Shrink) required to edit these files before burning them to DVD. It took me two full days, and a lot or re-burning & erasing my DVD-RW before I got it right but I think I am getting the hang of it. I still have a lot to learn though before I'm ready to burn a permanant DVD for fear of it ending up as a coaster.

Thanks again

I've allready made 2 coasters. It's no big deal though, Office Depot had DVD-R'a and DVD+R's on sale. A 15 pack for only $4.99. That's 32 cents each. I can't complain losing 32 cents as long I am learning something.

It's not really a coaster. It's an .avi file. I can play it on any pc, but no good in the living room DVD player. I could just had them out to friends I guess.
