Having more than one firewall is unnecessary and could cause conflicts - the same with more than one realtime antivirus scanner. One good firewall is enough.

Some people say it is - although it does not provide outbound protection. If you want protection from Dialers and spyware phoning home then you would have to look into Sygate, Zonealarm (4.5), or Kerio (or any other good firewall).

IMO the windows firewall is better than no firewall, but I like outbound protection.

It's a lot better than the original XP firewall, but it still doesn't monitor outgoing. Used in conjunction with a router, it's good enough.

I don't know if ZA 4.5 is compatible with XP SP2.

Well probably, although there are plenty of free ones that are a lot better and there's no real reason not to use them. I have Zone Alarm 5.5 and have been incredibly impressed with it.

I have the free version of zone alarm, and its good enough for me.

Also, the sp2 firewall is somewhat spastic on what it blocks and what it doesnt block, because once it blocked my internet (not cool) so I turned it off and got zone alarm.
