Question curious... Browser check. Mozilla firefox v IE

I'm Alex and have recently discovered, and now use mozilla forefox as a browser.
I was just curious on your opinions of each browser and like, the pro's and con's of each?
Well i swapped and the fact that its open source means almost nothing to me, but is apparently a useful thing.
I also heard that microsoft have kinda negelected Internet Explorer and it's a security hazard or something?? Thanks for any tips about which one is safer and better to use

Both browsers are good. I don't think any of them is safer than the other. Just use the search function and you'll find many threads regarding this subject.

And better to use . . . well, only you can really know that.

The second this turns into a this is better than that thread... I close this down.

That said.. I run IE with AdSubtract... essentially the same result that Firefox users get. No ads, no javascript if I don't want it, no images should I select to block, etc. BTW, I've heard the argument that with FF you don't need to add a program like AdSubtract.... well touche, with AdSubtract, I don't need to add a second browser right?

I dunno, i found firefox to be a rather useful browser, with the engines u could ever want in a corner, and can all programs run their internet access through this new browser? and is it ok if i completely remove IE, i mean evertthing should still run shouldn't it?

You cannot completely remove IE and expect everything to work. It's part of the OS and you will lose a lot of functionality - Windows Update being one of them, and anything that requires ActiveX. If you don't want to use IE, fine - use whatever browser you want but leave IE alone (and keep it patched!). I guarantee you will need to use IE from time to time to access certain sites that *require* it, and no alternative browser that's not IE-based will work. I have never used IE as my primary (and default) browser, and never will, but it's there and I do have to use it occasionally.

Browser is completely up to preference by the user. I love Firefox, but that doesn't mean the next guy will love it. As RJ said, both are great browsers, it's all about what you like. I wouldn't bother removing (or ATTEMPTING to remove) I.E. There's no reason to remove it, if you don't like it as much, just don't use it. If you want to set Firefox as your default browser, in Firefox go to:
Tools, Options, General, and check the "Default Browser" box, then click the "Check Now" button. You can make FF your default so you won't even know I.E. is installed.

Edit: by adding that POLL at the top, you are going to end up with a closed thread... oh well.

If you really want to have some fun, visit THIS PAGE for lots of Extensions and Themes. I am running an Adblocker, a Dictionary tool, Weather Reports, lots of cool stuff. I would recommend the Noia 2.0 (extreme) theme.

Take a look and see what you like. You can also go to the Tools menu in FF and access Extensions and Themes from there.

HAVE FUN!!

I recently switched to FireFox also, and I love it. I have no problem or no dislike for IE. I tried FF simply because I heard it was faster. So far, it's a lot faster in my experience.

Although I do like FireFox better than IE, I almost never use it. I use Opera as my primary browser and Explorer for Windows Update and other sites that require it.

I have to agree with GLC.

I use FF as my primary browser, but from time to time you have to switch back to IE to open some pages. It has only happened to me a handful of times so far though. I don' think there is a way to completely remove IE, and even if you did, I think your Windows environment would lose a lot of it's functionality.

So basically I repeated glc's post

I use both while on-line. I like FireFox's tabbed browsing but gotta use IE to view certain pages correctly.

So far, in my limited use of FF, I've not noticed any pages not showing correctly. Just curious, but anybody got a link for me to compare?

All pages show up correctly with Firefox I think ? There's just problems with some strange plugins or java scripts sometimes need IE to be shown properly. For regular everyday surfing, You'll practically never need to grasp back to IE.

I also use OE and Thunderbird.

i like firefox better because it totally gets rid of nasty pop-ups. i do get some funky typing errors when i have Java running, but that is a minor inconvenience. at school, the computer labs have delted IE in favor of firefox since they believe that it reduces or eliminates the occurance of spyware.

i use firefox primarily because it loads pcmech almost instantly while IE takes abbout 45sec., and the adblock is free and works great. i tried some free ad-banner blockers on IE and didn't like them and was too tight to buy a decent blocker.

I use both because my banking has some features that will not work correctly with firefox, but I like the tab feature of Firefox. So maybe the poll should have included both?

Because of this thread I downloaded FF again.
I like the tabbing and the ability to customize the appearance of certain sites.
Thou I still need my IE for my banking (as mentioned before).
Hopefully this problem and the java jumping all over the screen will be fixed on FF 1.1.

It must just be the luck of the draw with the sites that are visited because I've never seen any problem with FF. I do all my banking, online purchases, etc... with FF and don't experience any difficulty. Strange...
