Can't get Pinnacle Studio Trial to work.
I downloaded the trial of Pinnacle Studio 9 so I could see what it's like. I can't get it to install. When I click on the install program it runs that hard drive for a couple seconds then stops and nothing happens. When I open the task manager I see two instances of "Studio9_3_Trial.exe". If I end one they both go away. I have tried restarting my PC and downloading the file over again and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

I tried it a couple of months ago, and didn't like it so I uninstalled it. Can't remember, though, if they had different D/Ls for different OSs?? Did it give you a choice?

Have you had the trial installed previously? Do you have/have you had any other Pinnacle software installed? There might be something left in the registry thats interfering.

I have never had any Pinnacle software installed. I didn't see any OS options that I remember. The strange thing is that on the site it says "The file you download will be a zip file. If you don't have WinZip installed go here....". The file I got is not a zip file. It's an EXE.

The file I D/L'd was
Studio9_1_3_18_Trial_30_West.exe and is 197,424 KB in size. Does that match your's? |

In fact, I have the Premier Elements trial already.
I wanted to compare the two. I also have the Premier Pro trial.TwoRails, mine says "Studio9_3_Trial.exe" and it's 214 MB. I'm confused now. |

I don't have a clue as to the difference between the files. I D/Ls mine about 6 months ago for a different build. "They" didn't like it (and neither did I) so I uninstalled it from their build. Yours could just be a newer / patched version. |

Premier Elements looks very nice. I haven't played around with it much yet but it seems to be a solid program. I wanted to compare it with Studio 9 because several magazine articles have given Studio top honors over Preimer. I'm curious to see why.

I've never seen a comparably priced Pinnacle package that will compete with any Adobe product. Liquid does not compare to Premiere Pro - regardless of what Pinnacle Sys. might say. And honestly, Studio is a joke - it's been buggy from day one, it's codec dependant, very low to render, and I've personally never been impressed with it's output quality. Just my opinion. Dave. |

I have always wondered why as well. That's why I wanted to see for myself. It's mostly the big magazines such as PC Mag and I suspect it has something to do with advertising. I'd trust that anything from Adobe would be better than Pinnacle but I want to see what the difference is.

Pinnacle's professional products are very good - but they are aimed at a different market segment. And Liquid fits a certain niche, one that Premiere Pro does not - then again, Liquid is not a 'general' NLE. But their broadcast products are top notch and TitleDeko is still an indsutry standard - although they have certainly expanded the line - I think there are 6 products in the Character Generator line now.

Pinnacle 9 sucks.
![]() Hundreds of complaints of crashing, especially in the middle of a lengthy project. Most are going back to Pin 8, or dropping it completely in favour of something else. Check the forums at www.videohelp.com |

Yup, the demo sucks.
What exactly are you trying to do? Edit/author a dvd, make a slideshow, or what? |

I don't think I'll be waisting any more energy trying to get Studio 9 to work. Premier Elements looks a lot more powerful anyway. I think the trial is fully featured for 30 days just like all Adobe trials.

Check again. The last Adobe trial I downloaded (I think it WAS elements) is a crippled demo.

I haven't tried to publish anything but from what I've seen so far it doesn't seem to be crippled.

Oh well I wouldn't have noticed that since I don't even have a DVD burner.

As I recall, Premiere Pro tryout has many features disabled but Premiere Elements tryout is almost 100% fuctional.

Almost 100% functional.
Yes, spend hours getting that video "just right", custom menus, nice buttons, homemade title pages, and voila, close the program and start all over again in DVDLab, because you CAN'T SAVE SQUAT! in the "trial". |
