Microsoft Messenger and Office 2003
Recently there was a tip which explained how to disable Messenger from starting up in Outlook express and Outlook. Is there a similar fix for Microsoft Office 2003, when ever I startup Word messenger service starts up as well. This is so annoying. I can not understand why Microsoft feels they have to force software on to people.
Any help would be appreciated. Wizard655 |

Wizard655,
First of all, welcome to PCMech! Is this MSN messenger you're referring to or Windows messenger? -LW |

reply to messenger
Thank you LiVeWiRe, I am referring to MSN Messenger. When I start Microsoft word sometimes but not always starts MSN messenger and puts it in the task bar. If I select close, I get a message that MSN messenger is being used by other programs. The only program open is Word and when I close it MSN shuts down automaticly.
thanks Wizard655 |

Click Start->Run and type MSCONFIG
Look in the startup tab and uncheck MSMSGS

Thanks for your reply, however that was not the answer. Microsoft Messeger is not in my startup. This is being started by Microsoft Office 2003.

Go to TOOLS>AUTOCORRECT OPTIONS>SMART TAGS tab There is an option for PERSON NAME. If this is checked, then uncheck this option. May or may not work...but it's worth a shot. -LW |

If you never use messenger go to C:\Program Files\Messenger and rename the folder to MessengerX. It won't be able to start...

Thank you LiVeWiRe, I checked and People was checked I removed it, now I will watch and see if it stops. Thanks for your reply and for the others who also replied with suggestions. I did not want to completely uninstall it yet because from time to time I use it to communicate. But I wanted to be in control of its use not let the software decide how I use it.
thanks again Wizard655 |
