Office 2002 Problems

Hello,
I'm running into a problem with Office XP Pro that I just can't seem to figure out.
The problem is any of the office programs slowdown drastically when ever I try to add and attachment in e-mail or open a document in word/excel etc. It seems to take a good 3-5 minutes before the browsing window shows the folders available. I have done all the office updates, windows updates and a defrag. Ran ad-aware and spybot. Also ran Tune-up utilities 2004 to clean up the system registry and such but still no improvements.
If I try to browse to the same folders and files using windows explorer there is now delay. This leads me to believe it has to do something with the MS Office product. I actually have two systems doing the same thing and both are running Windows XP Pro for their operating systems.
I can't think of anything else that I could do to help improve the situation, so any tips or thoughts would be great appreciated.

Figured it out

Never mind I figured it out.

If anyone was interested the problem was that the computer was firstof all setup on a different workgroup and had networked drives that were mapped. Once the workgroup was corrected the old mapped drives needed to be remapped.
I first changed the workgroup thinking that this might correct the issues but they still persisted. I then noticed all the mapped drives and tried removing them to see if things improved. Which they did. I then readded the mapped drives to see if the system would slowdown again but this time the performace stayed fast.
So i guess with the two workgroups and the somewhat mapped drives there was some miscommunication which caused the slowdown.
Anyways, I hope this provides some help for anyone else that runs into a similar situation.

What antivirus are you using? Quite a few have MS Office plugins that scan everything you try to open.

We use Norton Anti-Virus Corporate version but like I mentioned I was able to resolve the problem by switching the computer to the proper workgroup and then unmapping/ remapping the network drives. There must have been some miscommunication due to the two workgroups and bad mapping that was causing the delays.

Thank you very much for the responces.
