Best DVD backup software?
I'd like to backup my collection of DVD movies so I'm wondering if anyone knows the best software for backing them up?
Is there also any good software out there to complement my new NEC dual-layer DVD-writer? TIA.

There is no "best" software without knowing how you wanna do it.
Assuming you want 1:1 copies, get DVD Decrypter, use "mode > iso > read" to rip the dvd to hard drive, and "mode > iso > write" to burn the image to DVD. You need a blank dvd that matches the original. RJ

Thanks RJ. By 1-1 copies do you mean titles, menus etc?
Also, I received "The World At War" 5 DVD set which has 4 episodes on each DVD with an excellent menu system. Will DVD Decrypter copy these exactly? I'd prefer to watch the backups and not use the original set. Thanks again for your help. You really are the optical disc guru on here!

All that DVD Decrypter does is copy data. You can do small alterations like turning off the user prohibitions if you like, though. But keep in mind that DVD+R DLs are still rather expensive (about 5 pounds I believe). An alternative would be to use DVD Shrink and compress all the videos of a DVD to fit a single layer DVD. The menus etc. will still be the same, but the quality of the videos would be lower. Another alternative would be to split one dvd up to 2 single layer dvds. So you have the episodes in the original quality, but the menu won't work completely since it's two dvds now. So, these are your options, you can pick whatever you like. RJ |
