Well, it had bin infected with alot of spyware, and adware, and Adaware for some reason hung in the process of deletion, and failed to remove them, about a week later, the computer started and the error message "illegeal operation blah blah blah," came up and the program with the error must have been an inportant one?
Cause when ok is clicked, it closes everything and all thats left is a blank screen with the regular background. So i am guessing that it was the program called explorer, because i have accidently closed this program manually asnd got the same result. But this makes it impossible to use!! because it all happens as it is loading the programs at start up!!! The OS is 98, and please tell me it doesnt have to be formatted??? THis computer is quite slow and has a few business programs. Any help appreciated!! thanx, Alex

Have you tried running the scan in safe mode?

Try using Adaware or Spy-bot or both in safe mode like mentioned already. Also you might want to check for viruses.
If there is any important stuff on the computer back it up if you can. Try this in safe mode also if you can't otherwise. |

Check out this thread:
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=123356 Explorer crashing was one symptom I was getting with that whole mess. After 3 hours I reformatted. I don't know if an over the top reinstall would help - I sorta doubt it. This looks like one or more pieces of spyware that essentially kills 98 when you try to remove it. |

That Ad-aware thing is exactly the same thing that happens with me!! It gets stuck in the process of deleting
