New build acting weird
I need some advice
My new build is acting kind of quirky. I am getting random shutdown. No consistently though which doesn't help. Most of the time it happens when I am visiting a website or forum such as this. It just shuts down. I am using a program called System Mechanics 5 Professional for protection as it suposedly has anti virus, hacker protection, system cleanup and defrag, registry cleaner, and other nifty little tools, but I am a little leary of it as I can't get the anti virus to update or do a full scan. I also have and run Ad Aware once a week. I have but not installed Norton 2004, Spybot, Spyware blocker. I am about to re format and start over. Do I just install the Window xp cd and click on install windows? Will it auto detect all my components? What programs do you guys recommend for protection. I am using Firefox and Mozilla browser and e-mail systems. Sorry for the long post and thanks for the help

I wouldn't install Norton04 if you like your system resources.

The first thing I would do is a virus scan with one of the links above. |

That's whats baffeling me.
I installed and ran AVG (free version) and no virus detected. I get no warning on shut down. It just shuts down. When I reboot, there is no error message, just goes to my desktop. It has to be a conflict somewhere, and I don't know how to find it. |

Well, I may be on the right track. I was finally able to get System Mechanic5 Pro un-installed. It was a task.
I have no had a problem with shut down in over ten hours of constant on. I have downloaded a program, read and returned mail, visited and made comments in a couple of forums, and so far so good. Maybe SM5 doesn't like Firefox. |
