help needed finding HP Pavilion recovery disk set

I have a HP Pavilion 8380 that the recovery disk fails at the same place every time. I have cleaned them well but the disk 1 of 2 is very scratched and I assume that it cannot finish extracting a CAB file. Anyway, does anybody know of a site that a person might come by this recovery cd set? HP support no longer will supply them. They claim that nothing but XP OS's can aquire a replacement recovery due to their liscensing agreement with Microsoft. Ain't that a kick? Any help would be greatly appreciated. PS, already googled and ebay'd with no luck as yet.

What OS do you want to run on this machine?

Could you not install your OS of choice, and then download and install the drivers from HP's website for your machine?

Actually, Jackal, that is where I am now. Win98SE installed , updated and a network card so it won't take me till June. The problem is with "NOTIONS" This guy has strong "NOTIONS" that he has lost something when he got rid of a thousand little slim apps, games and whatnot. I spoke with the guy yesterday and he was really only concerned with the loss of his Quicken that had been bundled. I just so happen to have had Quicken 2000 deluxe that I had used for about a month back in '01. So I think that it's all good now. THX
