Trouble opening some TIFs

A friend of mine sent me a TIF file and I couldn't veiw it, the message I received was * Couldn't display "Trailer centre.tif " because a suitable graphics importer could not be found. So I tried a couple Ive opened in the past with no problems and some opened some didn't how do I fix this?

try adding ".tif" to the end of the file name. Even change the file name.

The extention already has tif at the ends
