FireFox has one built in (so does Opera)

For IE the only one I've ever used is the Google Toolbar - did a very good job too.

It's not free.. but I feel worth the money... AdSubtract. I have yet to get a popup get past it... ever.. not to mention options of killing java, javascripts, ads, animations, background music, auto refreshes, and the dreaded smart links. Personally, I still run version 2.55... I tried version 3.0, but they took out some of the features that made it good. Version 2.55 is still available.

If you go ahead and download the Service Pack 2 upgrade to the Windows XP Operating System, pop-up blocked is integrated into MSIE as well as many other security features. Outside of that, I agree with Mikezel in the Google Toolbar - nice neat versatile tool.

I've heard about spyware from this freeware...

Try Firefox or Google Toolbar.
